i just got an SMS from a friend wishing me "Happy Women's Day".
it read something like..."For the symbol of strength and sacrifice. Happy women's day."
(i deleted it b4 writing the blog, so cant remember exact words.)
what irritates me is how can people simply pass around such stupid messages. just for the sake of showing that u r celebrating some day that has been tagged Women's day!
in a country like India, where female infanticide is still practiced, celebrating women's day is baseless! the fact that makes it all the way more stupid, is that women themselves are a reason of female infanticide!!!
many other reasons may be listed to deny celebrating this day. but not now.
P.S.: i'm surprised that friend wished me "Women's" Day... while there are still people who ask which school i go to!!

I agree, celebrating womens day is pointless in a country where female infanticide is prevalent and sometimes by females themselves...
But why dont we look at it this way, that, slowly people are waking up to these atrocities and the levels are coming down... and we are celebrating the fact that the situation is improving... which can be said to be a bit too premature celebration... but hey thats India!!!!
i dont know whether to agree to ur point or not...
my point doesn't confine only to the atrocities towards women, but in general attitude of people towards them. i dont really know how much of situation has changed/improved... taking all of India into consideration, the %change will be very minute... not enuf for me to celebrate atleast.

We do wish our mothers on mothers day irrespective of how mothers are treated in general..
